Building the Basics

Level One

Creativity and exploration are the main ingredients of level one. In this level students will learn the basics of improvisation as it applies to short-form. This class will foster:

  • More confidence
  • Better public speaking ability
  • Creative problem solving
  • Working as a group

Outcome: Better understanding of how improvisation can influence your artistic, professional and personal life.

Becoming Storytellers

Level Two

In level two, our educators will help fine-tune your storytelling skills. In addition, you’ll work on techniques to make your character work stronger. You will also learn:

  • How to use storytelling skills in every day or professional lives
  • Working with environments and objects
  • How to use rhyming and rhythm in scenes
  • Enhancing your stage presence

Outcome: Fine-tune your improvisation skills to better problem solve and work as a group.

Advanced Improv Techniques

Level Three

Now let’s get serious! This class will give you exactly what you need to learn the inner workings of short-form improvisation. Some techniques you’ll learn:

  • Improvisational singing and movement
  • Advanced game techniques
  • More detailed feedback about improv techniques and theory
  • In-depth discussion time about improv and its applications with instructors and guest improvisers

Outcome: Build an extensive knowledge about improv theory and how it applies to stage and the student’s life.

Intro to Long Form

with Sam Pullen

In this 4-week class you will learn the basics of long form improv via the form known as the Harold. Building on previous improv training you will sharpen such skills as:

  • Theory, structure and techniques of the Harold
  • Tag-outs, time-dashes, finding the game, scene editing
  • How to draw 20 good minutes of improv out of a single audience suggestion

Outcome: Confidently perform a full Harold for an audience.

Standup Comedy Course

with Isaac Landfert

Participants will work together in a safe and supportive peer group to develop a 3-5 minute standup comedy routine to be performed at a class showcase at the end of the session. Professional working comedians will provide advice and guidance on how to craft a joke, build a set and survive in the competitive world of standup comedy.
